Hospitality inspiration from the history of commercial aviation

When the flying machine was invented by the Wright brothers, airlines started to fly passengers and restaurants started to take influence from the cabin crew. Providing service several thousand feet in the air in a confined space required strict procedures and structure.

From the beginning of commercial air travel, influences were taken from Australia and the United States, from 1920-30 until the 1970s. The airlines that were looked up to were the international Australian airline Quantas and the legendary and iconic American airline Pan Am.

From the 1970s until 2010, it was the European airlines that were taken after, such as Lufthansa, Swissair, British Airline, Finnair, Air France among others.

A few years before 2010, they started taking inspiration and influences from Asian and Middle Eastern airlines. One of the strongest inspirations comes from the country of Singapore and its international airline Singapore Airlines, but also Japan airlines. SriLankan Airlines. The Middle Eastern airlines are Qatar, Emirates and Etihad.

All of these airlines have been emulated because they combine strict structure in that they put safety first, but also that each crew member delivers personalized service based on their personality. And passengers are guided through their flight with food and entertainment in the form of service coaches overseeing their journey to their destination.
